This is a very large question, and I have my personal idea. I see the concept (not a person/entity) as beauty itself. Imagine the musical notation of Mozart's "Gran Partita", or a mathematician's symbolic scribblings as he creates an elegant proof. Consider Keats' lyrical musings in his poetry. When one looks behind the cage of those inkstrokes, there is an unmistakable beauty... and I call it God.
MUSIC: Mozart's Requiem
Bach's Mass in B Minor
Berlioz's Requiem
MATHEMATICS: S. Ramanujan; inexplicable number intuitiveness
Karl Gauss; child natural genius
LITERATURE: Shakespeare; phenominal insight into the human condition
Keats & Coleridge; transcendent views of existence
SCIENCE: A. Einstein; incredible leaps of physical insight
ARTS: Michelangelo; Moses sculpture- unspoken power that transcends explanation
Picasso & Braque; Cubists visualizing the unseen (before science did)
All of these people have skirted what I call God. They have produced recognizable bubbles on the surface of the behemoth that is the underlying structure of existence, whether it is you and I, or the universe itself. When one can look behind the mask of human representation and communication and see beyond, you have glimpsed God. We see small pieces of what I've described above, but it is all part of the same unifying whole; the universe. Albert Einstein had said that he KNEW that certain aspects of his vision and mathematics were correct b/c they were beautiful. He did not believe that "The Old One" would have produced otherwise. As it has turned out, they remain as some of the most correct and evidenced theories in history. And I guess that is the crux of my statement about God; IT is an aesthetic thing that is the undelying structure of every aspect of the universe(s)- life, human creativity, stellar evolution, superstrings, topology, atomic deep structure. EVERYTHING contained in past, present and future states.
WOW!!
